Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 Overview
The Mercedes-Benz GLS is the auto maker’s large seven passenger SUV and is meant to provide all the luxury and capacity demanded by the American market. The GLS is offered with three different engine choices: a 362-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 in the GLS 450, a 449-hp 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 in the GLS 550, and finally, a 577-hp 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 in the AMG GLS 63. All but the AMG move the power to the ground via a 9-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive system, the AMG uses a 7-speed automatic.
Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes w/Brake Assist, traction control, stability control w/roll control, eight airbags, Mbrace SOS system, PRESAFE, Collision Prevention Assist Plus, rear camera, drowsiness detection, crosswind stabilization and collision prevention assist. The GLS 550 and AMG GL S63 also includes full LED headlights with highbeam assist and curve illumination, lane keep assist and blind spot detection. For 2018, the diesel engine has been dropped from the line-up.
Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 Exteriors
Thanks to the updates for 2017, the GL turned GLS now wears a new front fascia that is more in line with Mercedes’ other products. Gone is the large center grille and smaller side intakes. Those are replaced with a swooping lower grille the mimics Mercedes’ sedans. The larger side intakes give the AMG GLS a more sinister and aggressive appearance.Up top, the main grille now has redesigned slats that help accent the huge three-pointed star emblem. Jeweled LED headlights give the Benz an eagle-eye look, especially at night.
The headlights are also active, meaning the follow the steering wheel to illuminate around corners. The main portion of the GLS’ body hasn’t changed. The windshield, roofline, doors, and wide windows are all familiar from before. That’s not a bad thing – each surface still looks fresh. I especially like the bodylines that run aft of the front wheel well and terminate into the bulging rear haunch that curves over the rear wheel well. It give this big boy a more athletic appearance.
Mercedes designers did wonders with the rear of the GLS. Gone is the grille-filled rear bumper that looked more gaudy than anything. It’s replaced with a smooth, curvaceous bumper with a more modest lower valance and faux air diffuser between the quad, chrome-tipped exhaust pipes that are stamped with the AMG logo. The optional class-three trailer hitch receiver hides under the bumper and provides the capability of towing an impressive 7,500 pounds.
The rear also boasts new taillights with LED lighting. Chrome trim on the tailgate, rear bumper lip, side door handles, window bezel, running boards, and roof rack give the SUV a brighter appearance that would be even more evident with a darker body color. The AMG GLS63 rides on trim-unique 14-spoke, 21-inch wheels with machined faces and painted pockets. They come wrapped in huge summer performance tires sized in 295/4021.
Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 Interiors
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class will look pretty familiar inside if you’ve spent time in the latest GL. There’s a smattering of updates, however, including a redesigned instrument panel and a new three-spoke steering wheel. Most notably, the infotainment system gets an improved 8-inch display screen (an inch larger than last year) and a touchpad that works in tandem with the default console-mounted control knob. This system continues to be one of our favorites due to its user-friendly menu structure and quick responses.Check for Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 price in Hyderabad at Autozhop.
Materials and design aren’t quite in the S-Class league overall, particularly if you focus on the area between the climate controls and the dashboard display, where a flat plastic panel with a number of small buttons makes for a somewhat dated look. Make no mistake, though. This is an exceptionally nice interior by segment standards. The standard MB-Tex vinyl upholstery on GLS350d and GLS450 models does seem a bit low-budget for a vehicle at this price, but you’d probably be hard-pressed to tell it apart from the real leather of some other brands. Moreover, the availability of multiple wood inlays and even diamond-quilted leather upholstery make it easy to add an even higher-end look and feel.
Of course, the GLS’s calling card is its roomy adult-size accommodations in all three rows. The standard front seats are agreeable enough, but the optional “multicontour” seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions are unquestionably the way to go if you can stomach the added cost. While the GLS550 and AMG GLS 63 both come standard with the multicontour chairs, the latter gets an upgraded set with aggressive sport bolstering that underscores the added performance. Second-row passengers have plenty of room to stretch out, and although 6-footers will feel a bit cramped in the third row, everyone else should be just fine back there.
It’s one of the more accommodating third-row seats you’ll find in any crossover. When it comes to hauling cargo, the GLS-Class offers 16 cubic feet of space behind the third row, which is comparable to the trunk of your average midsize sedan. Folding those seatbacks down gets you 49.4 cubic feet behind the second row, while dropping both the second- and third-row seatbacks opens up a class-competitive 93.8 cubic feet of space.
Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 Engine
The Mercedes GL63 AMG weighs a hefty 2600 kgs plus and hauling all that weight around spiritedly is a 5451cc, V8 engine which uses twin turbochargers. The output is a massive 557 PS between 5250 – 5750 RPM while 760 Nm of torque is produced from as low as 2000 RPM, all the way up to 5000 RPM. Mercedes-Benz claims the GL63 AMG does the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 4.9 seconds while the top speed is limited to 250 km/hr. Now these are impressive numbers for a 7-seater SUV which can carry your whole family (and their luggage) in utmost comfort and luxury. There are three modes – Comfort, Sport and Sport+, each altering the ferocity of the motor and gearshifts. To know more details on Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 visit Iiit-bh
The 8-cylinder mill is very refined and has good pep low down for city duties. It starts with a rumble but the cabin is so well insulated that you can only hear the typical AMG buuuuurrrrr when on full pelt. Performance is pure savage and every time you floor the pedal, the GL63 AMG accelerates like a big fat cheetah with an aim to kill a prey. Once past 3500 RPM, the GL63 comes into its own, gathering terrific pace in no time. 200 km/hr is almost always in sight post which progress is a bit tame. You can manually shift gears (without any intervention from the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission), it even blips on downshift. 100 km/hr comes up in third gear with the redline showing up at an early 6400 RPM. The performance SUV returns a mileage of 3-4 km/l.
Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 Riding
Compared to the GL-Class, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class benefits from suspension refinements that provide a more controlled, confident feel in corners. Nonetheless, it retains the quiet interior and absorbent ride over bumps for which the GL was known. Braking performance was a strong suit for the GL, and we expect it to remain one for the GLS, which stops with the drama-free ease of a much smaller vehicle. We’re a bit disappointed with the lack of real-world oomph from the diesel-powered GLS350d, especially given its prodigious torque rating, but the other three engines pour on the performance in increasingly concentrated doses. The GLS450 is a fleet SUV in its own right, but the V8-powered models practically redefine what’s possible for a large crossover with their effortless acceleration.
Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 Safety
The car maker has blessed this SUV with highly advanced safety aspects that ensures protection to the passengers as well as to the vehicle as well. It is incorporated with an active curve system featuring active stabilizer bars that reduces the rolling motion of the vehicle. It is also blessed with anti-theft protection package, which is an intelligent safety feature that ensures protection to the vehicle in case of brake-in, theft and towing away. On the other hand, it has night view assist plus system, which enables the driver to recognize the pedestrians earlier in the dark. This system features infrared headlamps, infrared camera and an on-board computer for analyzing the images .

Mercedes Benz AMG GLS 63 Conclusion
Overall, the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 is silly, expensive, and totally unnecessary; a Mercedes-Benz GLS450 offers just as much utility with better fuel economy and performs well enough for anyone who can be satisfied with something less than ludicrous. Even so, we can’t help but swoon over this enormous roadgoing Concorde that effortlessly blends luxury, size, and performance. Sensible or not, the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 deserves respect. We’re tellin’ ya.
